Desktop Linux Workgroup Leadership

John Walicki (IBM) - Chairman



John Walicki is part of the IBM Senior Technical Staff and architect for the Open Client Initiative and leads the internal deployment of Linux clients within IBM. He also leads the open standards based Browser Independence deployment of Firefox within IBM and the Document Interchange strategy to switch IBM to Open Document Format based productivity editors. John is a member of the IBM CIO Office Total Workplace Experience organization. His global development and integration team is working to lower the costs of deployment of an enterprise enabled Linux Client. John is an active leader in the Linux desktop community where he represents IBM on The Linux Foundation's Desktop Linux Workgroup and as a member of the Gnome Advisory Board. John previously was the Manager of the Client Systems Engineering group of the Watson Information Services Department at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center where he spent 16 years supporting the IBM Research user community.



Marc Miller (AMD) - Technical Leader; Desktop architects representitive to the board



Mr. Miller is currently entering the seventh year of his tenure with AMD, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc., bridging a critical gap between industry-leading software development and cutting-edge microprocessor technology developed by AMD, a global provider of microprocessor solutions with almost $6 billion in net sales. In January, Marc took on a role as the open source software expert in the AMD Developer Services organization, enabling Linux kernel and application developers to develop superior code using both AMD and 3rd party tools and resources. Mr. Miller has been critical in co-developing a Linux go-to-market strategy with a focus on integration of AMD's new technology products and software tools developed by industry partners, and alignment with OEM Linux go-to-market strategies.


Steve Harris (Xandros) - Communication and Programs



Stephen E. Harris is the best-selling author of numerous computer titles including the WordPerfect Office 2000 Bible and Corel Linux For Dummies. Steve attended the London School of Economics and has a masters degree in political economy. He kept the US balance of payments for the Federal Reserve and has many years experience in managing the development of complex data systems for the New York City government and at a major international bank.

Desktop Architects

The desktop architects represent the Linux desktop development community. This picture shows those that attended the first desktop architects meeting in Dec, 2005. Two other meetings were held in 2006. The desktop architects meet to assess the Linux desktop in its entirety and to identify those technical areas that require attention in accellerating the use of Linux.
